Green Parrot Bar
About This Spot
Stepping into Green Parrot Bar is like sliding into a familiar rhythm that feels both effortless and alive. Nestled just off the busier Duval Street, this tucked-away dive bar carries an easygoing Key West spirit—a place where locals and visitors mingle over cold drafts and the sound of live music drifting through open air spaces. The pace here is unhurried but energized, inviting you to settle in but also to tap your foot or nod along with the tunes.
The atmosphere effortlessly blends the casual warmth of a neighborhood haunt with the vibrant pulse of the island’s nightlife. Two bars inside create a social flow that’s both intimate and lively, backed by a steady rotation of bands that fill the place with genuine, unpolished music. It’s not about flashy shows or polished perfection, but rather those authentic human moments when people come together to share drinks, stories, and the easy joy of being in good company.
Drinks here feel like a part of the experience rather than just a menu highlight—whether you’re sipping a super nice mojito, a rum runner that surprises you with its kick, or a local brew fresh from tap. The complimentary popcorn is a small but memorable touch that quietly enhances the sense of laid-back hospitality. And with a selection that ranges from classic draft beers to fruity cocktails, there’s always something that fits the mood, whether you’re starting your evening or winding down after a day exploring the island.
The real charm of Green Parrot Bar lies in its easy vibe and unpretentious charm—a place where the music and the people are the heart of the experience. It’s the kind of spot where evening stretches into night under warm skies, conversations flow like the drinks, and every visit feels like a low-key celebration of the unique spirit of Key West.

My wife and I went here most recently on July 18th and 19th, 2025 during a 4-night annual trip to Key West. Before that, we've probably been here 30 or 40 other times during previous annual visits because this ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL BACKSTREET DIVE BAR always seems to have the best live music acts anywhere on the island (even better than Sloppy Joe's and the Hog's Breath Saloon). This time was no exception. It was a small Blues Rock trio from Orlando, and the lead singer/guitarist was super talented. Since this is essentially a live music bar, we never deliberately go here to eat. It's also not really enjoyable to even attempt to eat a meal here when the live music volume goes way up and the crowd starts getting into a foot stomping or dancing mood. If you get the munchies while you are here, they do have free popcorn to tide you over, but I'd also recommend you eat a full dinner somewhere else BEFORE you arrive. As far as arrival times, I'd recommend about 8:30 pm most evening because the featured band usually starts its first set at about 9:00 pm and you might still be able to find an open table or seat at the bar. After the live music starts, this place will usually get packed (standing room only) and the crowd often spills outside onto the sidewalk along Whitehead Street. The bands usually play 2 to 3 hour-long sets each night, but I'd check the Parrot's website to find out who is playing and what time their first set is schedule to kick off, as it might be as early as 7:00 pm. Sometimes, they even have bands that will play afternoon sets, but those are pretty rare, and during those hours, the bar is often almost empty except for the local drunks (professional boozers). The drinks here are also very reasonably priced and run about half of what you'd pay along Duval Street just a block away.

Can’t beat live music and cold beer!!! Always complementary popcorn!!! Great atmosphere!!! They were celebrating the 31st tradesmen’s day, offering complementary pizza…..the band starts playing at 5:30 every afternoon and the place gets packed, but a great chill atmosphere!!! This place is Key West vibes!!!

This is a great hang out.. two bars inside, ride on Whitehead just off the main drag of Duval street. Local and domestic beers on tap, good service and great bands make for a wonderful Keys experience!

Stopped in for a quick beer. It’s an iconic dive bar with a great vibe and a nice open-air feel.

Fun place to stop in to nab a drink!! Powerful drinks especially the rum runner...it sneaks up on you!! The staff is very fast and on top of it. Was there during the day, did not see a band. Packed bar!! Worth the visit!!

Once we got the bartenders attention things went great. We tried the bloody Mary's and the root beer shots, I would recommend both. Great live music started at 1 pm on a Sunday. Lori visited their gift shop and the rep there was jovial and very helpful. We'll be back!
